Vehicle Description 1961 Corvette Fuelie Project Car Car History In the long history of America's Only True Sports Car, some offerings are known as First and lasts, thanks to features that made their sole appearance during a single model year.
Such is the case with this 1961 Corvette Fuelie Project car we have here at Adventure Classics.
We believe our 1961 Corvette is one of 1,462 built that year with the optional 315-horsepower, fuel-injected 283.
As it turned out, that 315-horse 283 option (and the other four 283s) disappeared from the Corvette's parts roster after '61, replaced by a line of 327-inch small-blocks.
But '61 was the first year for the Stingray-inspired rear styling, an aluminum Harrison radiator, and the toothless front grille, and it drew 10,939 buyers.
We are offering our 1961 as a project car as all the basics are there, you just need to restore it into whatever you desire, whether that is an original street car, race car, or Resto-Mod.
The choice will be yours.
Engine & Drivetrain Our Corvette has what appears to be an era correct (#3782870 engine stamping from high performance engines including the 1961 Fuelie up to the 1966 327-350 horse engine) 1966 327 cubic inch engine with an HT code stamped on the front engine pad showing it to be a 350 horse version with a solid lift camshaft.
It also has the 2-4 barrel option Corvette carbs on top.
A lot of owners back then could not get the fuel injection to run right, and took it off and replaced it with these dual quad setups, and this may be the case here.
It has the correct factory Corvette script aluminum valve covers, factory aluminum intake, performance quad carbs, factory open aluminum air cleaners, headers, updated electronics, and sits in a stock looking engine compartment.
There are holes in the drivers side inner fender where we believe the fuel injection cannister was bolted in from the factory (see picture.
) Interior The interior looks to have the original seats, door panels, Corvette steering wheel, dash with gauges, radio, floor shifter and console, clock, window cranks and levers, rear view mirror, and hard top but of course needs a full restoration.
Exterior It looks like it may be the original color of Honduras Maroon paint on the exterior of the body and the hard top, and needs restored too.
The body has the Fuel Injection emblems on the sides of the fenders, stock hood, good stainless & glass, windshield wipers, front and rear chrome bumpers, headlights and grill, and looks to have the majority of all parts it came from the factory with.
It rides on newer aftermarket 5-spoke polished aluminum wheels with BF Goodrich Radial Trans Am raised white letter tires.
Conclusion Overall, the original 1961 Corvette Fuelie Project car we have here at Adventure Classics will make a great project restoration and this Corvette has an attainable price to start your project into making this Corvette your own.
