The Insurance Verification Specialist primary duty is verifying insurance benefits and communicating costs to the patient.
This job will work closely with the precertification department.
Excellent customer service is required.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for verifying patient's insurance coverage for cardiovascular outpatient and inpatient visits, testing and procedures using various phone and on-line resources.
Estimate benefits, coverage and patient out of pocket costs.
Communicates with patient regarding patient's financial responsibility, to ensure the front office is able to collect money such as copayments, coinsurance and deductible for visits, testing and procedures.
Update records with accurate patient and insurance information.
Must have working experience with all payer types:
commercial, governmental, Medicare, Medicare Replacement Plans, Medicaid, etc.
Work directly with the Pre-Certification Team if referral or authorization is required.
Requirements:
Associates degree preferred, high school diploma required and relevant experience in healthcare field.
Prior experience with health insurance benefits.
Experience providing patient communications and financial counseling for a healthcare provider.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
