The Systems Decision Support Group is responsible for short and long-term planning support such as master water supply planning, operational planning, seasonal source allocation, demand and supply planning, and responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of water resources optimizations tools, hydrological models, decision support systems, and water demand forecasting systems.
The group also supports the agency in conducting research on the impact of climate variability, climate change and sea-level rise.
The data analytics co-op student will work under the direct supervision of one staff member under the guidance of the decision support manager.
The co-op student will have the opportunity to perform a variety of entry level, professional, research, and data-analytics tasks that will support the development of decision support tools for real-world problems.
Due to the varied needs of this program, there is a wide range of tasks that can be included in this position, and so the selected student will have the ability to leverage their specific skills, and they will have the ability to pursue topics that most align with their interests.
The data analytics co-op position is an opportunity for a student to learn about decision support tools used in water utility and work with a diversified group of staff.
The selected student will be given the opportunity to improve his/her research and speaking skills, understand the value and techniques of data visualization and this has the potential to elevate his/her chance of further education or work in similar environments.
It is a temporary, part-time, office position located in Clearwater, Florida.
The student will work a maximum of 20 hours per week.
Essential Functions Assists with decision tool development using up-to-date modeling techniques.
Assists in conducting applied research relevant to water resources planning and management.
Develops data visualization tools using in-house datasets, including historical data and model simulation results.
Explores various techniques, including statistics approaches and machine learning algorithms for data analysis.
Attends meetings and events, virtually or otherwise.
Observes Safety Policies and Procedures in accordance with the Agency's Safety Program.
Performs other related work as directed.
MINIMUM TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

Actively enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, geoscience, or data science.
